Hello everyone,

Please help! My employer finally decided to apply the LMIA for me.
My questions are:
1. How long will it take to get the result of LMIA for the pharmacy assistant position (non-skilled job)?
2. Can I apply for the work permit extension when my current employer still in the process of recruitment? Or can I apply one at the same time with my employer applying for the LMIA?

Thanks!

1) I would plan on 2-4 months excluding the advertising requirement. (Your employer also needs to advertise the job for a month first before applying for the LMIA.)
2) Ideally you want to apply for the extension once your employer has an approved LMIA. You can apply for your work permit extension at the same time as your employer applies for the LMIA. However it's quite possible your work permit extension application will be processed faster than the LMIA - in which case your work permit will be refused - and you'll end up in Canada without status and will need to stop working.

Thanks for replying.
But they also ask for the LMIA application number. Before they give the result of the work permit, wouldn't they check the LMIA and wait until the LMIA result released?
I have no much time left. I will need to apply for the work permit extension and get the implied status...

They will check the status of the LMIA - but they won't put the extension application on hold and wait for months for the outcome of the LMIA application to be known.

But it says on the website: you can submit your application 2 weeks before your work permit expires if the LMIA is still in the process.
