Hi guys, I'm a chinese citizen, I applied visitor visa 2 years ago when i was dating my boyfriend(hubby now), i was given an almost 10 years visiting visa. the first trip was in 2013, at the border i told the officer i was visiting "my friend" and how many days i would stay, after i met my boyfriend he proposed and we got married during the trip, of course as i promised i left Canada as the schedule i told the officer.
We applied out-landing spousal sponsorship, case is being processed, and have to say it's super slow..i plan to quit my job(which I have been working for the past three years) next month and go visit my hubby to stay with him for one month.
I do have concerns about crossing the boarder due to two major changes, first is i got married in the first trip and having my hubby in canada. Second is i'll be unemployed both would make my ties to Canada more than to my own country. Not sure how these changes would affect my entry...
I do have good travel record with western and south east asian countries, and i have enough savings and property to show i'll come back.

You have a TEN year visa. No one can stop you from coming to Canada as long as you have the visa, it doesn't matter how your status or employment has changed.

CBSA is fairly lenient when people have a sponsorship app in process. Carry proof of the sponsorship app along with your proof of finances. Are you planning to actually stay in Canada or will you be returning home? Will you have a return ticket?

CBSA can refuse entry to any temporary resident, regardless of what visa or permit they hold.

thank you for your reply canuck_in_uk,
I've ordered ATIP notes, hopefully will know more one month later. currently my plan is to stay with him for one month when we receive the notes if it's all positive comments, I'll come back to China wait for passport request from beijing embass, if it's not I'd seek for lawyer's and immigration consular's help in canada. Either way I'd prefer to order double trip ticket.

Hi guys,

Pls help to give an advice for my situation as below:

My bf is Canadian, I am Vietnamese. We planned to get married in Sep, but because of my bf's job, we can not celebrate our wedding and we decided to replace by an engagement. However, we are going to ask for visitor visa for me to visit my fiancé from now on so that I can go to Canada to visit him and his family after we engage. Is it possible for me to get visitor visa? In case we want to register marriage certificate in Canada first during my trip, then back to Vietnam and waiting until the day we celebrate our wedding in Vietnam. After that, we will apply PR for me.

I hope to receive your feedbacks soon

Thank you so much

To get a visitor visa, you have to show ties to Vietnam. The visa officer wants to see proof you will leave Canada before your visa expires. Things like a letter from your boss giving you a few weeks off; money in the bank; an apartment lease or mortgage or proof of home ownership; investments; family ties; etc. can be used to show your ties to Vietnam. You should also have a return ticket with a specific return date.
