How will Changes to the Immigration Law affect us??

Hi everyone!

My skilled worker application was submitted via fedex from Canada, to the Embassy in New Delhi on the 22nd of February. The Fedex tracking number confirms that the Embassy received the file on the 25th of February, 2008 at 10:30 AM, and was signed for by a Mr. Vasudevan there.

CIC states that only people whose file was received ON OR AFTER February 27th, 2008 will be affected by the new laws. Can I assume that I am safe?? Is this "received date" they are talking about, the actual date they received the file, or some other date when they input it into their system or something like that??

Thanks in advance for all your help!!!

The news amendments for the immigration process are not approved yet. Maybe the second week of this month we are going to have something done. There are many things which are no very clear that's why the immigration lawyers and ethnical groups are against of this changes.

From what I have observed, the date that CIC gets a persons file is a marker. They should send you a letter that they have received your file and it will be marked with that date. I wouldn't worry. You are 2 days before the effective date. DATES THAT FILES ARE RECEIVED ARE IMPORTANT TO THE CIC. Thats how they determine "first come, first served."

Best wishes.

Thanks guys for that information!

Makes me feel better to know that the actual date they receive the file is what matters. I surely hope for the sake of everyone applying, these new amendments do not pass. Let's hope all the lawyers and immigrant groups keep up the pressure and it does not turn into a mess like it is here in the U.S. Thanks again!!
