I've read somewhere in the distant past that 95% of Canada's population lives within 100 kilometers of the US border. The precise figures aside, that seems about right both from weather and jobs/industry standpoints.
A friend of mine lives in Vancouver and is always boasting that, year-round, he can go 45 minutes to the west and be at the beach and 45 minutes to the east and go downhill skiing at Whistler. Because of the warm gulf stream going up past the coast of BC, Vancouver weather is quite mild compared to the rest of the country, though it can be rainy for certain parts of the year. Something to consider...
