Hello Everyone,

I'm looking for some advice or insight on the topic that is so close to my heart right now. I am Ukrainian living in Canada. I have a PR card and awaiting on my citizenship. As you might know, not so long ago Russia invaded Ukraine. I have all my family back home in Ukraine mom, dad, 6 month pregnant sister and brother in law. I would like to give them an option to come and stay with me and my family until it's safe to go back to their homes. I am planning to apply for Super Visas for my parents and a travel visas for my sister and her husband. Canadian government advised that Ukrainian applications would be prioritized. However due to the unstable situation in my home country I am not sure if we have any chance in obtaining any visas at this time at all. I would like to see if anyone has any information on this topic and can help with a piece of advice or words of encouragement.

Thank you in advance,
Iryna Healey

I am very sorry for your family's situation. The whole situation is horrific.

Canada is prioritizing applications for immediate family members. Unfortunately your parents and sister / brother in law do not qualify as immediate family members (immediate family members are your spouse / common law partner and any dependent childre). However I still think you should submit applications asap to bring your parents on a super visa and your sister and brother-in-law should apply for a normal TRV asap. I don't know where they are located right now. It may be safest for them to temporarily relocate to another country and then apply from there. I don't know. It's a hard decision.

I think it's difficult for any of us to comment on the chances of approval.

There is also the following contact information on the IRCC web site specific to Ukraine and maybe you can reach out and find out if there is any way to expedite their applications.

Contact us about the situation in Ukraine

It looks like a new program is going to be set up that could help your sister / brother in law. The program details aren't available yet but it sounds like they should be posted in around 2 weeks. You can see the announcement here: https://www.cicnews.com/2022/03/ukraine-crisis-canada-opens-to-unlimited-number-of-ukrainians-immigrants-0322738.html#gs.s4p8nd

Obviously not the priority but your sister is unlikely to qualify for health coverage so you will need to look at the cost of maternity care.

Thank you so much for the updates! I really appreciate it!
I'm watching this for a bunch of people I know who are impacted. I will try to remember to post here once that info is available.
