Hi there,

I have a Temporary Resident Permit for Canada for 3 years.
It does say at the bottom "DOES NOT AUTHORIZE RE-ENTRY".

I'd like to go back home to visit my parents but will I be able to return on my Temporary Resident Permit or do I need to get some additional documents?

Please advise.

Thank You.

Like it says on it, it does not authorize re-entry so if you leave, you will not be able to come back on this permit.

I assume you got the TRP because you were for some reason unable to get a TRV (regular visitor visa). If you leave, you would probably have to apply for a TRP again. I do not know your situation, therefore I have no idea if they would give you a TRP again.

My understanding of TRPs is they are issued to those who are inadmissible to Canada for medical or safety risks but who have a reason to travel to/stay in Canada that is justified in the circumstances.

The permit has to say, "Departure from Canada will not invalidate this Temporary Resident Permit under regulation 63(b)" for you to be able to leave and return.

Yours says, "does not authorize re-entry", meaning, once you leave Canada it will no longer be valid. I don't know if you can apply and be approved for a new one if that happens. Plus, there is the issue of "break in continuity" which can affect eligibility for permanent residence.
