I and my wife are Sri Lankan citizens currently live in UK as I am reading a PhD. We got Canadian PR under skilled migration category this year.
Now she is expecting a baby and baby will be delivered in July 2013 in UK.
Once I finish my PhD in April 2014 I hope to go to Canada and my wife and baby will be back to Sri Lanka till I sponsor our baby.
What are the requirements I have to fulfill to sponsor my baby born in UK and live in Sri Lanka by the time I sponsor him? (My wife already got Canadian PR. So I have to sponsor only my baby). Is there a minimum amount of income they ask to have before sponsor the baby? How long this process will take. (By that time our baby will be one year old).
Please advise me.

1. As the child will be a UK citizen and doesn't require TRV to enter Canada as a visitor, there is noting stopping you from bringing your wife and child to Canada. Once the child is in Canada, you can submit a sponsorship and application with the medical to Mississauga. If the child is admitted as a visitor for a year, then you can choose CPP-Ottawa as the processing office. If not admitted for a year, you can choose London as the processing office.
2. Works the same way if your spouse and child wait in Sri Lanka. The sponsorship and application go to Mississauga, and you choose Colombo as the processing office.

A child born in uk does not automatically become uk citizen i suppose..

Correct.
http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/britishcitizenship/eligibility/children/britishcitizen/borninuk/

Section 3(1) applications - children born in the United Kingdom to parents who are not settled in the United Kingdom and are not British citizens

Registration in this category will be at our discretion, if we believe it is reasonable under the circumstances and will be under section 3(1) of the British Nationality Act 1981. There are no formal requirements the child needs to meet providing they are under 18 at the time of application and are of good character if they are over 10 years of age. The application should be accompanied by as much evidence as possible to show us why the child should be registered as a British citizen.
