Can anyone please advise how I should proceed to invite my sister-in-law to visit my wife & me for 2 months? The Visa office will be Singapore.

The reason of the invitation is for her to stay with my wife after child-birth. My sister-in-law is elder , is married, have a very good job at her home country.

Do I need a lawyer at this point or a notarized invitation letter will be ok? Do I need to add any other document?

Thanks in advance.

You don't need a lawyer or notarized letter, you need to show reasons for your sister in law to go back home. They might think that two months is a long time. You would be better saying two weeks. See what they give her when she arrives in Canada assuming she gets a visa and extend it if need be.

Thanks.

She would have strong reason to go back - such as family, a great job at a five star hotel, assets etc. So, I will ask her to write these in her affidavit.

My mother-in-law and sister-in-law just both got visas for the same reason (pregnant wife). We asked for a planned trip of a month, but my mother-in-law will likely stay longer; I think they are OK with long trips for this reason, but still need to see the reason to return.

So, besides affidavit stating I am inviting my Sister-in-Law to stay during my wife's pregnancy and that I can afford her stay here for 3 months, ANYTHING else I need to send to her to be included in her application package? . (She is not from a Visa excepmt country however she has strong ties back home and a very good job)

I sent the following:

- a statement summary from my bank account as proof of funds (but your mother should also demonstrate that she has money of her own)
- my address as where she would be staying
- copies of PR cards for myself, my wife, and our son
- a copy of one of my paychecks, to prove my employment
- an official letter from my wife's doctor as proof of pregnancy

And then a letter formally asking the embassy to grant them a visa, stating that they would be staying with us, that we had funds to cover their stay, why we wanted them to come, emphasizing that my sister-in-law was employed and had just purchased a car (she had to provide docs for these herself), and a list of all the documents above.

When my MIL applied 4 years ago (to accompany her daughter when she landed is PR) she also got a visa, but then it took two days -- this time took more than two weeks. Not sure what's gone on with the embassy in that time . . .

I recently found this link, seems you only need it notarised if your Visa office requires it. so that will depend on your country etc.

Personally, I don't see why the invitation letter would be notarized -- a notarization means two things, that it is an officially recognized document, or that it was signed in the presence of the notary. However, your invitation letter is not an official document -- you wrote it. I suppose you could get it notarized to prove that you wrote it, but if you forged it, then that would be you writing it as well. Same for the signature. Why would you forge your own signature?

As imonec points, ONLY AND ONLY IF the visa office asks for notarization then you notarize it.

Notarization serves no purpose as to say that it is officially recognized that the person who signs actually signed it..... so I can say that I am emperor of the world appointed by the highest deity and therefore invite you to Canada... and notarize it.... does it help? no... notarization would say "yeah that guy wrote that"... so what?.... what CIC is concerned about is that whatever you say in the invitation letter is true and for that you must send supporting documents.

Don't get me wrong, notarization doesn't hurt your application but it doesn't help it either... it only helps the notary pocketbook :)
