we have a problem. my wife lost her birth certificate and she asked how to get a new one. the answer was to do a dna test. the problem is that her father has passed away and her mom dissappeared with out trace. there is no other family in her hukou. Does anyone know how to do this?

If your wife is recorded in the police office in her home town, she simply needs to ask for a re-issue of her certificate.
So says my Chinese wife.

Who told you she needs a DNA test?

toby
when you wife got hers from her home town police station did her dad need to go in to sign a paper as well stating it wa his daughter?

ok thank you every one I will see if this works. the government office that noterize her documents told her that they didnt know and that she could get a dna test, I think she asked the hospital also not sure. where is your chinese wife from? can you tell me are you still in the process and if not how long did it take to complete the process?

Sorry, my wife (from Hubei Province) did not lose her birth certificate. I merely asked her hypothetically how she would get a replacement birth certificate if she ever lost the one we have.

She said your wife should:
1) Go to the local police department in her home town, ad get whatever paper they provide f rthe purpose of getting a new birth certificate.

2) Go to the capital of the Province her home town is in, and apply for the birth certificate. Take parent’s ID cards, if available, and her Hubou Bu (family book). Indeed, take whatever ID docs she has.

When my wife needed a birth certificate for our PR application, I think it took about a week to issue it.

And no DNA test required.
