How to manage finances and save as an international graduate student who receives funding?

Hi,

I am an international graduate student who will be joining a thesis based course at the University of Alberta, Canada soon. I am being financially supported by my department via a graduate teaching assistantship, however, while trying to make a budget of my expenditure and savings, I realized that it was hard to save and be self-sufficient always.

So, I wanted to ask for some advice and help with saving and managing finances. If anyone has gone through something similar, please advise me. I'd really appreciate any help.
