Dear All,

Is there any other requirement besides 2 out of 5 years in Canada to maintain PR status. If I stay first 3 years out side Canada and then come for 2 years would I be able to maintain PR status?

Thanks for your help and guidance as always.

Best,
SGPA

Yes - you can maintain PR status if you do this. However this wouldn't be a very wise thing to do since it means that you must remain in Canada for two straight years without leaving. What if you have to leave the country on business? What if you have to make an emergency trip back to your country of origin? What if you want to take a holiday outside of Canada? Better to return to Canada before you have been out of the country for a full three years.

Thanks scylla for this sincere advice, I really appreciate this. This makes sense esp if need to leave for any emergent issue.
I am glad that Canadian rules are not as strict as the US! It is not so easy to maintain PR status in US as in Canada.
Thanks again, scylla.
