How to list monetary value of belongings being moved into Canada?

So we're in the process of getting our passports stamped, and now I'm realizing that we have tonnes of stuff we will have to declare on the B4 form if we want to bring them into Canada. We live in a tiny studio flat, but we're still going to have at least 10 boxes of our household items and belongings we expect we'll be moving into Canada.

The problem is, I can't possibly begin to estimate the monetary value of every single item I own down to my toothbrush, trinkets, homemade items, half used toiletries, random dishware, and old clothing.

How is this generally done? Should I just donate/sell/recycle every single item I own other than what I can wear or carry in two hands?

Thank you so much!

Hi. Although my reply here will be from Philippine sources, I think they apply to your situation.

I read from this blog: https://pinoystocanada.wordpress.com/ (can't find the actual post where the values below were stated) that he used a fairly simple system for his goods to follow (although he did not have his CBSA goods to follow form (so he paid taxes when they arrived)... since it is assumed that your items are used, the price won't be high. you can just assign valuations like $5/kg of clothing, used kitchenware $xxx per box...

We asked the same question in the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) Pre-Departure Orientation seminar (PDOS) we attended. The answer was the same: you can just estimate and assign a value as a collective instead of per item.

Hope that helped.

To determine the value of your items, ask your self: how much would I sell this TV, today? The price you’d offer it at, is the value you should indicate on the form. It’s an estimate.

How you list the items is really up to you. You don’t have to measure the weight of any times. For example, clothing; just say 5 bags/boxes of clothes - CAD 300.

All the best
