Hi Friends,
I am a PR holder and lived in CA for some time after getting my PR and moved to US.
I am planning to move back to CA now otherwise my PR will expire. I purchased a car a while back and wanted to know:

1. What is the process to import car to CA from USA?
2. How much taxes, fees etc needs to be paid to Canada for importing car...or does it make sense to sell the car here in US and buy a new one in CA?

I am expecting some of you might have been in same situation as me. Please help.

First, your PR doesn't expire, only the PR card. Have you met the residency obligation (2 years out of 5). If not you probably risk being reported for RO. This starts the process of revoking your PR.

If you are moving to Canada with your car, it needs to be exported from the US first before it can be imported to Canada. You will also need to have any recalls done and a letter from the manufacturer stating that and bring the vehicle into compliance with Canadian requirements. It also needs to be on the RIV list to be eligible for import. More info is available here:
