Hello,

We are Canadian citizens planning to marry in India as per traditional wedding. What is the process to register marriage in India? Or does marriage need to be registered in Canada?

Wondering if we can register in India being Canadian citizens? If yes, then what documents are needed?

If you need marriage certificate (from wherever) for Canadian purposes but want traditional wedding ceremonies in India, you could just do a civil wedding in Canada. And then whatever ceremonies you like there (checking permitted by law there of course ) - if you don't need the marriage certificate to be from India specifically, what does it matter?

Canada will recognize the civil marriage, almost any jurisdiction anywhere would recognize marriage of two Canadian citizens or residents carried out in Canada. And you do whatever ceremony you like in India for family or traditional or religious reasons.

You'd mainly only need to check that the officiant or religious bodies involved don't object (obviously they won't participate if against the law).
