How to get Canadian Citizenship as an European Citizen.

Hello everyone,
I am new in this forum.Searched for couple of days to get info about settlement in Canada.Finally found this forum.
I am an European (Portugal)citizen and want to go to Canada and settle there. I am not skilled worker. I want to know that, how may I settle there in Canada or how could I get Canadian Citizenship and how long it will take ?Please help me with your valuable information.

You cannot apply for Canadian citizenship directly. You must first become a Canadian permanent resident. You'll have to read through Canada's immigration programs to see what the criteria is to apply and if you qualify. You can find this information here:

The process for immigrating is the same for everyone - it doesn't matter where you are from.

Once you have become a PR and have lived in Canada for a number of years, you will then qualify to apply for citizenship.

That page lists all of Canada's immigration programs. So if you looked through each of these programs and didn't find any you qualify for - then unfortunately it sounds like you cannot immigrate to Canada at this time. If you are able to secure a permanent and full time job offer in Canada, this might open a few doors for you.

There are not many options for a non skilled person. One might be going to study in Canada, graduating and getting a skilled job but you need money if you want to study. One might be going as a live-in caregiver but if you do that, you need to either have 1 year experience as a live-in caregiver or a 6 months course.

There are still options under some provinces nominee programs for long haul truck drivers so if you have a truck license and can get a job offer and work permit, you would have a chance there. Otherwise, apprentice a trade or study at home and then try to get a job offer and immigrate to Canada.

However, as an EU citizen, all of Europe is open to you so why Canada? You think you will have a better life in Canada as a low skilled person than in Portugal?
