How to count the 1 year working experience?

Hello everyone,

I wonder how I should count the 1-year working experience. CIC indicated that 1-year means 1560 hours, that is 30 hours working time per week towards 52 weeks. Is the 1-year time calculated based on working hours or on a calendar year? I'm currently working 35 hours per week. Should I consider myself fulfill this requirement after around 45 weeks instead of 52? Thank you very much for your help!

No, it's a year. CIC deem 2 weeks vacation a year as acceptable, but you have to do one calendar year. I worked 40hours per week and it's still 1 year

Thank you very much! Another question is, what about the statutory holidays? I'm not working during holidays but still getting paid. Should I subtract the holiday hours?

Yea, Canada has an acceptable period of 2 weeks. However, countries like the UK give you 4 weeks. Its all in your contract, so unless you take 3 months off work and your boss mentions it in your letter, CIC assume you have had suitable and acceptable holidays. Your work just has to be Oct 1st to Oct 1st, if you get me.

So for example if a person has has experience of full 52 weeks but in that there was 2 full weeks of vacation, so actual work done was 50 weeks, what will be counted for CEC? 50 weeks or 52 weeks of experience?

No, so a year is 52 weeks. Canada expects you to take a vacation. They deem 2 weeks as acceptable, but of course each country has more or less paid vacation.

So as long as you worked from Oct 1 to Oct 1 and didn't take excessive holiday that your boss is going to call you up on, then it counts as one year of work.

I did read somewhere in a CIC booklet that work on implied status or as long as you have work status or permission, it counts. I'll did it out and share it soon.

The work counted by CIC is done from the date your PGWP is issued, it is also counted if you are on implied status retractive toward the previous pemit. Meaning if you are in implied status AFTER you applied for the extension of your Work Permit, for example you are applying for LMIA and are waiting for the answers for it and your visa has expired but you applied before its expiry, then that period of work is counted.

Note: Work experience acquired while under implied status will be considered as eligible work experience under the CEC, provided the applicant continued to work in Canada under the same conditions as their original work permit until a decision was made on their application for a work permit extension.
