How to certify a police certificate?

Hi,
I received a police certificate from Germany which is in Germany language. Can I certify its copy in Canada at public notary (I live in Canada) or in German Consulate in Canada? Shold I also send the original document or only certified copy and translation?

Original in colour+ certified copy+ translation is needed!

I think it makes no difference, either way is allowed, as long as you get a certified copy. In my country the translator gives you a certified copy along with a translation!
