Hi everybody,
I'm in Canada for almost 10 months with an open work permit. I started working for an American-Canadian company before coming here. After 3 months I transformed to the Canadian entity.
Now I have 13 months of experience in the company which 7 month of it is in the Canadian branch (full time, 40h a week).
First question, how the officer will decide how much Canadian work experience I have? According to the letter from the company or tax payment in Canada or...? In my case 13 months or 7 months?

If I work part-time (20 hr a week) how many years of part-time working will be considered as one-year work experience?

You have 7 months of Canadian work experience. It's only Canadian work experience if it was gained physically working in Canada. EDIT: I'm not clear how long you have been physically working in Canada (10 months or 7 months). However long you have been working full time in Canada is the number of months of Canadian work experience you can claim.

To calculate work experience using part time hours, add up all of the part time hours and divide by 30. The result you get is the number of weeks of work experience you can claim.

Thank you!

I have another question. I have worked 7 months full time, 40 hr every week, so if I work 5 months part-time, 20 hr a week, it will be 1 year Canadian work experience, right? it will be one year and the average is more than 30 hr a week. Am I right?

No - you aren't. You cannot average hours worked per week to calculate work experience. Every week you work 30 hours or more is counted as 1 week of work experience. It doesn't matter if you work 30 hours, 40 hours or 90 hours a week - it's still only counted as a week of work experience for immigration purposes. So your 7 months count as 7 months of work - period. The extra hours cannot be 'carried over' to other weeks. Again, as already explained above, to calculate how much your part time hours are worth, you'll need to add up the total number of part time hours and divide by 30. So your 5 months of part time work will be worth around 13 weeks of work experiences. You don't have a full year.

So 30 weeks part time (20 hr a week) + 7 months of full time will give me the one year experience I need!
Thank you scylla for your help!

It should. Make sure you have 52 weeks of full time work experience.

In your case, 7 months, because that's the amount of time you spent physically working in Canada. Doesn't matter if the company is American-Canadian.

To validate one year of experience, you need to work 1560 Hours. (Basis of 30h/week x 52 weeks)
So, in your case, 20h/week in 52 weeks will only amount to 1040 Hours.
So you need to work 78 weeks (to 1.5 years) in part time at 20h/week for it to count as 1 year of work experience. (1560h/20h)
