Pre-Assessed..
i went today to buy a new phone, they said they need a canadian id/governement issued ID. >:(

and i dont have one, they said foreign ID' wont work.

Do you have credit card ?

Are you trying to get a new contract phone or buy one without a SIM card?

i dont have credit card, only debit card.

im trying to get a contract phone. and i think even if i buy the phone w/o sim (like full playment) they still need government id or SIN.

You can buy a SIM-free phone on Amazon without ID, just an account.

If you're ready to pay full amount. Just walk to any WIND store and buy the cell phone. You can order it online on their website too.
You can get cheaper cell phone on toronto.kijiji.ca too.

I would never buy a phone from a non-retail outlet. Far too high a risk of getting ripped off. Pay the money, get a warranty and don't end up with a phone that is stolen or IMEI blocked.

they normally give u a contract phone with some deposit like $100 strange the asked for SIN ....they do check ur credit history ......u tell them u r an international student and they will take ur study permit anf passport and may be ur college id.

what im planning to buy is galaxy s2, only pcmobile has it. no other options left for me, except kijiji

I baught i5 on passpoart no canadian id required. :P :P

yeah, when I bought my first phone here 4 years ago, I had a friend who 'cosigned' for me...and I think they wanted to see my study visa. it was with fido. when I later went on to buy an iphone with bell, and I still didn't make income at that time (did have a SIN though), they asked me for a 200$ deposit that I got back after 6 months...I guess they wanted to see if I was going to pay my bills and stuff :D . So I'd say with your study visa and maybe a friend (mind you, my friend Wasnt Canadian either, she just had been studying one year longer than me already), you should be good to go.
