I applied for Canadian PR and it is at the final stage now. I got passport submission request and already submitted. I am planning to marry my girl friend who is a different national. But at this point of time I am hearing and reading many post that, family sponsoring will take a lot of time to approve and many hardship to get it approved too. I would like to bring my fiancee together with me or as soon as possible after I migrated to Canada.

1. Can I apply visiting visa for her before I go to Canada and then after reached Canada, apply for family sponsorship?
2. If I need to apply visiting visa, how long will it take to get approved?
3. What are the procedures to apply visiting visa?
4. Do I need to wait until I go to Canada to apply visiting visa for her?

I just want she to be with me when I go Canada or the soonest I want she to be joining me. I am currently residing in Singapore and here in Singapore it is very easy to bring wife together. But in Canada this thing seems very complicated and difficult too.

Can someone assist me on this?

Yes - she can apply for a TRV. However there is no guarantee the TRV will be approved. As a PR, you must be living in Canada in order to sponsor her. So if the TRV is not approved, this means you will have to be separated while you sponsor her and wait for the PR application to be approved. She can apply for the TRV at any time. Processing of a TRV can take anywhere from a few days to a few month. If you would like to discuss the TRV process with others, join the Visitors section of the forum.

Note that if you get married before you come to Canada and officially become a PR, you MUST return your the PR visa you were issued while you were single, add your new wife to your application and wait for CIC to issue a new PR visa to both of you before you land.

If you want to avoid the above, you cannot get married until AFTER your PR visa has been issued and you have come to Canada, "landed" and officially become a PR.

Hi Scylla,

Thank you for the kind reply. So now I have the following doubts.
1. TRV means visiting visa, doesn't it?
2. 'PR visa issued means', I need to come to Canada to complete the whole process right?
3. Suppose I marry before I land in Canada and decided to add her in the PR application, how long more will it take for an average processing time?
4. Has she need to go through all the checks and stuffs that I went through for my PR application? My application took almost 2 years to get the passport request and now waiting another two years for her PR to get approved seems quite long period of time
5. Suppose she apply for TRV and come together with me as a visitor and we register our marriage in Canada, is it possible?

1. Yes.
2. Yes.
3. I would say 3-4 months.
4. Yes.
5. Yes. But again, there's absolutely no guarantee the TRV will be approved.

Hi Scylla,

okay. If number 5 is an Yes, then I better try my luck to get a visiting visa before I migrate to Canada. In case if it didn't approve, probably I have to add her and wait for her PR also to get approved. So

1. Is there any link or info where I can read how to add her in my PR application?
2. Suppose TRV is approved, how long will be the allowed duration of stay? Can I do it online?
3. Is there any restriction or clause that I need to take note when I register my marriage in Canada?
