I would like to apply for multiple entry visas to Canada for multiple years for my parents. I think generally the multiple visas they issue is muptiple entry for one year. Can someone please help me? Thank you in advance. :)

A multi-year visitors visa, whether one-time or multiple-entry, does not exist. TRVs are issued for a maximum of 6 months.

I suggest you read Operations Manual 11, here is a quote

"A multiple-entry visa:
• has a maximum validity date of up to five years or one month prior to the expiry date on the
passport/re-entry visa, whichever is earlier."

Absolutely correct! Many mea culpas. I need to remember not to post after writing 5 finals in 3 days on a combined 4 hours sleep. My sincerest apologies.
Do you want to know the most ironic thing of all ... ? My brother in law, is currently visiting us here in Vancouver ... and he has a multiple entry TRV that expires in three years (South African national)!

What I wanted to say (but obviously didn't come anywhere close to) is that the maximum length of a visit on a TRV (barring any later extension requests and approvals) is for six months, regardless whether the visa is one time or multiple entry. You may be permitted to make many many visits on a multiple entry visa, but each visit/stay cannot exceed 6 months in duration. My brother in law asked me how long he must be away from Canada between visits before "the clock resets to zero" and he can return for another period (up to 6 months) of time, but I was unable to give him a good answer. I simply told him that the whole topic is "a big grey area" and that nonoe really knows what the "official" stance is. It's all purely hypothetical as he's never stayed longer that 4 or 5 weeks at a time (he usually visits 2 to 3 times annually, mixing business with leisure catching up with his sis, aka. my wife, but it was a question that was both interesting to ponder and yet a bit disconcerting at the same time.

Again, my sincerest apologies for the completely incorrect info I posted!

Happy Holidays to all of you!

Hi, thank you very much for your reply. Would you mind directing me to this Operations Manual 11? I have trouble locating it on cic's website. It would be really helpful. Thank you so much!!

Thank you so much everyone for your help.
It is definitely worth a try to apply for the multiple entry rather than single entry visa.

Happy Holidays to everyone! :D
