Hi

Depends in which visa office you apply but normally between 6 - 12 months

Are u aware of the CAP of 20000 in place? If not go slowly and start reading the posts of this forum. You will get a fair idea. If u r planning to apply by Dec 2010 its of no use. You better put ur application by July 1st 2011 to get a berth. now its first come first served.

No consultant is required .This forum can help u in every way and if u have doubts put it down here and u will get prompt answers.
For example ur NOC is say 3142. The year begins with the new ministerial rules from 26th June 2010 to 30th June 2011. If ur visa office is Delhi. For Noc 3142 there will be just 1000 visas till 30th June 2011. The new year begins from 1st July 2011- 30th June 2012.
So I do not think u have arranged everthing to put ur applications thru like IELTS/ police clearance/ notary of all ur docs/ proof of funds/ transcripts from university/ reference letters from employers etc.
This will take time for u to arrange. With every passing day scores of people who have done this home work are applying . So u will not be that early bird. As soon as the stated quota for the year is over u will have ur application returned back to u.
So I think now u can figure out things easily.

Whilst it is true that there are only 1000 slots per NOC, and only 20000 total - everyone is in the same boat with regards having to now get full supporting docs prior to applying - including Police Certificates, employer contracts/references, notarization, original university transcripts, proof of funds docs, and of course booking IELTS test (can wait 1 month or more to book a test) and waiting the 2 weeks for the results.

All of this will take time for every applicant, so I suspect the offices are not receiving applications at the same rate they did prior to June 26th.

I think the best policy is to ensure you get full documents as close to what they are asking for as possible, and only submit an application when it is fully completed and ready, rather than trying to panic and rush your application in, only for it to be turned away.

I'd be very surprised if any of the NOC categories had hit 1000 yet, especially the new categories, and likewise I think it will take many months for the 20000 total limit to be reached. Baring in mind of the applications they are receiving quite a lot will be unsuccessful and therefore won't count towards the 1000 / 20000 limits.

Anyway since 120 days has now been shaved off the process because they don't need to wait for you to get supporting documents, I think the previous 6 to 10 months estimates should be a bit sooner now.

NOC = National Occupation Classification

There are certain occupations which Canada requires in its labor force, they get updated every now and then according to the economy needs, the NOC list was last updated on the 26th July, if you fall under these occupations only then you will be eligible to apply ..

Hi - yes there are many supporting documents you will need, and IELTS test results are one of them. My wife (principal applicant) takes her test on 5th August so we are filing our application the day those results arrived (somewhere around 20th August).

See the other poster regarding the 29 occupation NOC list. You need to have at least 67 points and at least 1 year's experience in one of the 29 occupations to be eligible to apply FSW1.

For a full list of documents get a Visa-office specific list (that is for the Visa office you will use to apply, usually in your home country if there is one). Different Visa offices have slightly different requirements with regards to supporting documentation.

But basically
1) Gather all your documents
2) Get copies and get notarizations where you need to
3) Fill out all the forms
4) Mail your app with the fee

Best of luck!
Wayne.
