how much time does background checks take

I am july 2013 cec applicant . my medical and rprf was done in march 2014.....Since then there is no update when I ask them they say they are working on back ground checks.. I applied for bridging work permit they only gave me for 6 months of work permit and said they have been working on my file.
Can anyone suggest how long background checks take...

It depends on many factors. Contact MP of your area(if in Canada) and ask your MP to contact CIC and enquire why its taking so long. He will surely get you your answer. I would also suggest you order GCMS notes.

Your BOWP is only 6 months. I guess it means they would make the decision within several months. Good luck!

No that is not how it works.

BOWP is 1 year or the term of the current passport.

If less than a year and passport has lots of life they perhaps feel that your PR will be rejected.

Using common sense Bro, why else would they issue 6 months if all else if ok ............. perhaps they doubt whether PR applicatyion will be successful?

what are the status on ECAS for who are waiting for background cheq?
