Hi everyone,

My husband and I will be landed in Edmonton Alberta this August 2016. I am pregnant will start buying all baby stuff in there.

Anyone has an idea on how much we need to bring as we dont have any idea about the cost of baby stuff and it will be enough for how many month?

thank you and appreciate your reply.

There're too many things you need to buy for a newborn baby you can see checklist baby stuffs from the link below,
http://www.todaysparent.com/checklists/newborn-checklist/

I would say you have to spend $600-$1000 for your baby, depending on how good quality you can afford. However, you can buy some of used baby product from this website,

Welcome to Edmonton:)

How much fund do you have exactly? On top of buying things for the newborn baby, keep in mind, you must consider like accommodation and transportation costs. Would your husband has a job waiting for him in Edmonton?

Thank you for your reply. Our estimated budget for 1 month is 3,000$. Is that enough for me and my husband plus the baby that will come out on August?

That's a reasonable budget...its enough for Toronto where i live..and should be fine for Edmonton too. You can also apply for child benefits later after the baby is born (the amount you will get will depend on your family's past income).

As everyone said before, depends on your life style. $3K is good enough but make sure when you give birth that you would cover for health card, I believe in the province or Alberta you could get coverage right away meaning few days after landing.

The rest of baby stuff if you can buy from overseas you would better off, here is Canada some of the baby items are quite expensive. For example if you go to Walmart (Okay quality) you will find some good stuff, but if you want to visit Toy R US, you will ended spending few hundreds on items like clothes or furniture.
From my experience, we didn’t buy baby Crip for my child, we needed using baby basinet for the first few months. Few things you do not need to buy right away, just try to make use of what you have first and bring what you can from outside Canada. If you’re planning on breastfeeding then no formula is needed, if not try to bring baby formula that you know of a good brand with long expiry date.

Once you’re in Canada shop at Walmart for kids’ stuff or there is another store called “ The Children place” they have nice stuff with affordable prices.

Let me know if you would like any further information

Good luck
