How much did the PR process cost in total for you (if you don't mind me asking)?

Hey, all.

I know the application fees total $1040, but I am working on a spreadsheet so I can see how much it will all cost altogether, including medicals and FBI (and perhaps even airfare to do the medicals and other unforseen expenses). Hopefully we would pay the $1040 up front. I would want that accounted for.

A ball park estimate is fine. :) Mentioned it before, but just for clarity, I'm American, he's Canadian. We won't go through with the process for quite some time, but I like the idea of having all my ducks in a row, as they say! (I guess you could say I'm an over-planner by nature... 8))

Thanks so much, y'all!

Budget about $1500 for everything + the cost of a flight to see a designated physician. For me it was $1040+ 350 (medical) + 90 for police check. Not sure if the FBI check is more expensive in the U.S but about $1500 will run you close :D

Okay, 1500 is what I had assumed, just due to what I'd heard from others. Would I have to get an FBI check in both the US and Canada since I've been to Canada a few times (though under 6 months each time)?

Thanks for your input! :D

Still interested in hearing other opinions! All cases are different, after all!

Edit: LeisaP: Yeah, I think when the time comes I'll bring that up to the boyfriend about getting a consultant to check over the application. (We have a pretty straight-forward case, so it may not even be necessary, though.)

Yeah. our case is straight forward to. but i didnt find this website before we applied. so it was very overwhelming for us. so we got one. but she was very helpful and qualified so it was worth the extra we spent on her. :)

but alot of people do the process alone and this website is incredibly helpful if you end up getting stuck on something! ;D

A few things to remember that will help no end. I did my medical too early and had a few delays after receiving my police certificate and was about 6 days outside the 3 month limit (still waiting to hear if that is an issue)

Plan your timeline really well in advance as I know an FBI check takes awhile to receive results and try to have your medical very close to when your ready to send your application out. I actually did my medical before anything hence on my timeline it is so early. Your police/FBI check is required to be in the hands of CIC within 3 months of receipt and medical lasts from 1 year when taken so try to plan both these steps well :D

yes the medical!
i agree take it close to when you are about to spend your app.
we did ours ahead of time(long story)
but anyways now were in the middle of the process and its expired over the 15 months extension thing. so we are just waiting for them to request a new one. :( which will cause a delay in our process

Funny, yet so true! ;)

If you take into account other miscellaneous such as, photocopies, translations (I guess it won't apply to you if all your paperwork is in English), travel back and forth to get pictures, police checks, birth certificates, bank account receipts, etc, etc... you're easy looking into an extra couple of hundred bucks. So my advice, budget for twice the amount for Immigration fees alone just to be on the safe side.

180 birth/marriage certificates? (don't remember the exact amount, but we got multiples of each)
80 postage? (to my spouse to sign things, then to the CIC)
60 prints/photocopies
10 packaging

Total: 1800-1900, I think

Then you have to add in the plane tickets for visiting while we waited, of course :p

I'm probably forgetting something, plus all the gas for running around, so total - around $1800ish.
