Generally speaking processing is around 12 months.

They notified us on Feb 5 ,2018 that our application is now in visa office ,Rome. And the status remains “in status”

Once the file is sent to the VO it is normal to not hear anything for an extended period of time (a few months or more). They are processing the file and it's unfortunately the longest and most laborious part of this.

I guess yes. We are checking our email almost twice daily.

Of course. All kinds of people. We just landed in December.

You should be able to track the average processing time by your VO. There is a thread for Rome.
