There may be a point in time in one's life when he spends a month in various activities which if I include than it becomes 20 line items. Should I go for such detailed answer or skip few things like 5 days spent at home to show as spent at dorm to brief the answer. Appreciate your time. Thanks

No gaps allowed - need to be specific - most activities particularly include travelling. I had to fill 3 full excel sheets for my father since they asked for last 30 years

Everyone can account for 100% of their whereabouts unless you were abducted by aliens. CIC needs this as part of their background check. Absolutely no gaps.

The form asks for month and year, so there is no way for them to see a 1 day gap. They can only see a month missing, for example, one entry says "2010/08 to 2010/09" and the next one says "2010/11 to 2011/05"; 2010/10 is missing. There is no way to see that 2010/09/14 or 2010/12/22 is missing.

It doesn't need to be super specific; CIC tells you in the question what kind of explanation they want, "working, unemployed, studying, travelling, retired, in detention, etc". The broad explanation, not day-to-day specifics. My partner spent a lot of time travelling. He had entries like "2004/02 to 2004/10, Backpacking, Australia." He didn't break it down into every single city and town, every single activity.

Yes, it only ask for Month/Year however, its needs to complete within last 10 years - i., if in home town between 2 travelling dates then 'working" ( assuming )
The form does says City, Country - I had one instance where we put US - NY, CA, RI, MA - didnt know what else to put

They asked my folks history from 1970's, I had to sit down with my father mainly and confirm with old dates, it was a challenge but came out with 3 excel sheets and even though he didnt live in states for more than 6 months, he had 14 trips so they asked his FBI - luckily I had anticipated that so had it ready

I would add that if you have changed jobs or traveled in and out of your country of origin that the day/month/year is important that it reflects the date you started something and the date you finished something. So if you started your education September 1st 2010 and finished June 21st 2011 then started a job July 5th 2011 you have a few weeks unaccounted for. That is a gap. I would say be as specific as you can be that reflects the supporting documents you have and your willingness for disclosure and transparency.

The day isn't important because CIC doesn't ask for it; if they wanted applicants to be that specific, the form would ask for year/month/day. Using your example, putting "2010/09 to 2011/06, Studying" and "2011/07 to present, Working" is fine for CIC. There is no gap in there; the VO is not going to think "Hmmmm, this person is saying that they finished school on June 30th and started a new job on July 1st? That's suspicious, so I'm going to require that they prove the exact day that they graduated and then started the job and everything they did in the time between."

Having been through this I would sooner err on the side of caution. Having filled out these types of applications before when it comes to background checks when they say account for you time with no gaps that's really what they mean. Exact dates help to verify your story and should you come from a country or culture that is more highly scrutinized then the more specific you can be the better. The background application clearly states that there should be "no gaps in time" and "failure to account for all time periods will delay the processing of your application."

There is no harm done by being specific about the timeline. Finished school June 27th 2011; June 28th to July5th waited to begin employment or resume school or whatever. While they may not flag an application for 1 day why give them the opportunity to?

When I applied, I only did month to month. I was not asked to go into more detail but there is nothing wrong with going into more detail if you want to. More is better.

It wasn't deliberate as form says past 10 years or since age of 18
So my mother had schooling, then gap in 60's for 2 years and 10 years job then homemaker - so they wanted from 1962-1964 then after she left job in early 70s
So I figured they are asking those 2 years of the 60's as they need a proper continuation of what she did after schooling

At first, I never bothered putting travel, I said working and homemaker for my folks - for the past 10 years, then they asked me previous years so I sent that + I corrected past 10 years with every detail of travel, I was afraid they might say we are lying as passport has all these stamps and I assumed the form to be merely like "working" or "retired" but we need to put foreign trips for sure

We even included transits so it seemed silly like 1980/01/01-1980/01/01 = UK ( Transit )

I put these coz New Delhi LVO ask to fill travel forms, but they never asked us so we got detailed in personal hisotry instead

I think this requirement can trip up more than just a few people. "form says past 10 years or since age of 18" I think they should really just ask for everyone to provide their history from the age of 18 and leave it at that.

I'd hate to drag this back up, but I'd rather do so than start a new post.
I am filling out my activity history, and being the age of 18 is closer than the last 10 years, so I' writing everything I've done since the age of 18. That takes me back to 2013, yet when I click 'validate' it gives me an error about leaving gaps in time, highlighting '2013' in my lowest box. If I went back 10 years I'd have to account for a lot of my childhood; mostly spent in school. I can't remember details like that.

Any way to get around that?

Thanks
