hi

I got the permanent resident in july 2005 i have to returned back home in july 2006 due to some family problems. i will be returning to canada in january 2008 or feb 2008 after that i can settle there all my life. Is this put any effect on my citizenship applicant as i read that 3 years physical presence needed to apply for application and that too in 5 years or 4 years. As my PR card expire in july 2010 do i get new PR card to complete my physical presence in canada.

reply me soon

It is 3 years physical presence in the 4 years preceeding the application. So if you don't return until Jan/08, you could apply in Jan/11 if you remain in Canada for the full three years. You have to apply for a new PR card when yours expires.

Hi,

I had come to Canada on an Intra Company Transfer (ICT) Visa. Now, I am a PR. Will the days spent on ICT Visa also be taken into consideration in the calculation for my Citizenship eligibility?
Thanks.

You can get credit for up to 1 year of residency towards citizenship at 1/2 day credit per day spent in Canada on the ICT. So let's say you were in Canada for 2 years on an ICT, you can count each day as 1/2 day to get 1 year towards the 3 year residency requirement for citizenship. Keep in mind that all of these residency days need to fall within the 5 year period immediately before you apply for PR.

I was on an ICT for 20 months. I do believe that I should get credit of 10 months. So, I should be able to apply for my Citizenship after 26 months of receiving my PR. The IRCC visa also says:
"
Using time as a temporary resident or protected person
Each day spent in Canada as a temporary resident or protected person within the last 5 years counts as one half day when you calculate your physical presence. You can use a maximum of 365 days as a temporary resident or protected person toward your time spent in Canada.
A temporary resident is someone who is authorized to enter or stay in Canada as a:
  • visitor
  • student
  • worker or
  • temporary resident permit holder'
But then I read somewhere that the ICT Visa is NOT a Temporary Resident Permit. Is that true?
