Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Hi friends

hopefully i'll be landing in Canada in April/ May 2010. my wife and 4 year old son will accompany me and i m planning to land in Toronto. can anybody guide me about how long we can survive with CAD 16580 in Toronto. i will not be buying a car and instead use public transport. and whether i can have any kind of govt assistance like Child Benefit etc immediatley after landing.

thnx & regards

I think you can survive about a year for this amount of money, but it usually depends on your expenses.
I don't think you can apply for child benefits right away. child benefits are related to your income.

As Suin said with that amount you will survive about an year if your expenses are close to average Canadian. Also you can find a job at least at Tim Harten's, so an year would not be a problem.

The skilled worker funds are estimated to last you for about 6 months but of course it depends on how much you spend. The low income cut-off table for sponsoring relatives indicates that you need $33,933 per year to support a family of 3. However, when you settle in a new place, there are always more expenses, things you have to buy, household items, furniture etc.

Still, you or the wife should be able to find a McJob easily to tide you over until you find something better.
