How long valid police certificate

All friends pls tell me how long police certificate valid
I have 8 month old police certificate is it ok
Or I have to apply

Its valid for a year.as long as its valid I guess there is no problem.

Thanks for reply Infact I am applying from australia
I have my home country police certificate ( 20/08/13)
But australia police certificate 12/1/13

I wanted to apply australia police certificate again but it takes 15 working days

Pls help me pls
