How long I can stay in Canada

Hi,

I am on a student visa and my visa is expiring March 2017. I have enrolled myself for another program for September 2017.
My question is, if I file for visa extension even if my program is starting in September, will I be given permission to stay in Canada.

I think you'll need to change your status to visitor in between since there's such a long break between the end of your classes and the start of your new program. Regardless, you won't be able to work between the two. Do you have enough funds to live in Canada for six months without working?
