How long for spousal sponsorship?

I recently arrived to stay with wife.
I got six months to stay which i can ask for extension when time comes.
Question 1. Who and how do i apply for extension when it comes?
Question 2. Wife is sponsoring me as spouse, I am US citizen. Going to
do it online as lawyers are asking way too much!

There is no online application to sponsor a spouse. It is a paper application. Straightforward outland apps through Ottawa are averaging around 8-10 months right now.
