How Long for Mexican Criminal Record Check Through Canadian Embassy

Hi,

I'm Canadian and my wife is Colombian. She lived in Mexico for a year several years back so we'll have to do a criminal record check there. On the CIC site, it says that we need to do the criminal record check after we apply and then we have to send the things they require to the Canadian embassy in Mexico who will, I guess, manage that process of getting the criminal record check again.

Question:

1.) Does anyone know how long it takes for the Canadian embassy there to process these criminal record checks? I'm just wondering if it's fast or something that takes a while?

Thanks!

Hi, it was taking about three months last summer. I don't know if anyone has a more recent answer. I had to go to México, so I end up doing the transaction directly at the PGR. My transaction took less than 10 days.

Thanks for the reply! A few quick questions:

1.) How did you know it was taking 3 months? Do they post this info somewhere? That seems like an incredibly long period of time to wait for a criminal record check.

2.) It says on the CIC Website:

If you live outside of Mexico (and you are not a citizen of Mexico):
You must first submit your Application for Permanent Residence. The Canadian Embassy in Mexico will request a police certificate on your behalf after you provide all of the following:

Two sets of original fingerprints that meet these standards:
rolled and flat impressions of all ten fingers taken with black ink
full name, date of birth and sex
the name and address of the police agency where the fingerprints were taken
the signature of the officer taking the fingerprints
To have your fingerprints taken:

In Canada: Contact a fingerprinting agency, or visit your local police station.
In any other country: Visit your local police station. In some countries the Mexican Embassy or Consulate will be able to assist you.
Three passport-size (4.5 cm × 3.5 cm) photographs of front profile (no makeup, earrings, glasses, or facial hair – no exceptions)
Three passport-size (4.5 cm × 3.5 cm) photographs of right profile (no makeup, earrings, glasses, or facial hair – no exceptions)
One clear, legible copy of your passport bio-page (with your picture and full name)
Quote your file number, your name, and date of birth.
Please send all five items to:

Embassy of Canada, Immigration Section
Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra 193, Col. Granada
C.P. 11520, D.F.
MEXICO

So just to clarify we have to send in the application first and then apply for the the criminal record check? When is the earliest moment we can do this or do we have to wait until we are informed?

Thanks for the help!
