My husband and I emailed his MP a couple of days ago and haven't gotten a response yet. Just wondering how long it takes. Anyone know?

Hello @ lalune117, although it can depend on the MP's office and where they are located you should expect an initial reply within one business week. Typically if the MP's office is in an area where there is a large immigrant population, they will have one or more staff dedicated to immigration inquiries only.

If you want to ensure the e-mail was received, just phone them to follow up. The offices are usually pretty accessible, that has been my experience over the years thankfully. Be prepared however; most MPs will not intervene with immigration unless you are past a CIC service standard. Many of them will help you with the applications though if you have not submitted yet. Good luck.

I just called them. They said they have received our initial email, but the person that is designated to handle immigration questions is out this week, which is why we have not received a reply. She informed me that the MP can never speed up the application process, and I told her that's not what we're looking for; we are just looking for answers since Ottawa is not responding to my attorney's email (I have little faith in my attorney at this point and am beginning to wonder if she actually did email Ottawa at all) in over five weeks now. The lady I spoke with at the MP's office said that they CAN look into the file and see if the RPRF was received and where things currently stand and can give us some peace of mind. She asked me to email her with all of our information (hubby's full address, both of our client IDs, both of our date of birth, and our file number) and said she will attach the two emails together and forward it on the to person that handles this kind of stuffs.

When we emailed our MP it took them 3 days to reply with info from the embassy the first time.

the second time it was 5 days and we still haven't heard back. but we got our PPR so I just told them to not worry about it

It all depends on how busy ur mps office is. I live in a city of only 100,000 so my mp only takes care of half the city, it was fairly quick.

Great follow up! The attorney thing, if you do not have faith in them do not waste any more money. I have had to fire an immigration lawyer myself before as he was so slow and ended up causing me more work. Go with your gut. If you feel confident about process type things and follow up (and it seems like you do) then save yourself some money. No one is more invested in this process than you and you have this forum to support you and the MPs office. Be prepared for your lawyer's office to behave badly about being fired though :D; however, if you make that decision, hold your ground!
Blessings.

Well, they already have all the money they want. LOL
We gave a 500 dollar retainer, 500 dollars when the app was filed, and 1000 dollars when my husband was approved for sponsorship...
The problem is that, they never informed us of the RPRF... So we didn't pay it until it was requested. The attorney's office claims that this did not set us back at all, which is garbage!

Grrrrr......to not inform you folks of the RPRF is completely negligent on their part, particularly as it adds another step to CIC's already overburdened process and it can cause your file to be delayed by 2-3 months. Maybe when you are done with them you can go online and rate them (poorly) and make a complaint to the provincial or national lawyer's association about them. Feel angry for you !! Keep a close eye on them going forward and best of luck!
