HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

I APPLIED SINCE OCTOBER 2006 AND I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING FROM THEM YET. A FRIEND THAT HAD HIS APPLICATION RETURNED MADE ME THINK MINE WAS ALSO RETURNED SO I WENT TO THE NEARBY POST OFFICE DURING MY VACATION TO FIND OUT IF MINE WAS RETURNED. YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS LIKE WITH NIGERIA POST OFFICE. I LEFT THERE AS CONFUSED AS I CAME.

MY ONLY RELIEF CAME WHEN I CHECKED THE ACCOUNT FROM WHICH THE BANK DRAFT I USED WAS ISSUED AND SAW THAT THE DRAFT HAS BEEN PRESENTED IN MAY 2007 EVEN THOUGH I STILL HAVE FEARS THAT THE DRAFT MAY HAVE GOTTEN TO WRONG HANDS AND THEY HAVE CLEARED IT. I WILL ONLY BE SURE IF MY APPLICATION HAS BEEN GIVEN A FILE NUMBER.

ANOTHER QUESTION BOTHERING ME IS THAT I SCORED MYSELF 67 WHICH INCLUDES PROFICIENCY IN ENGLISH AND I AM YET TO TAKE THE EXAM. PLS WHEN IS IT RIGHT TO TAKE THE IELTS EXAMS. THE EXAMS I TOOK WHEN I WAS APPLYING IS ACADEMIC INSTEAD OF GENERAL TRAINING AND THE SCORE WILL NOT GIVE ME THE REQUIRED 67 POINTS

Hello Chinyere and welcome to the waiting game. I am sure you should be worried as to why you have not received any correspondence as regards your application. The reason is that the pressure in CIC Accra is high, due to the influx of applications. I will suggest that you write a mail to CIC asking if your application was returned or not.

Another thing I want to ask you is that did you use a Lawyer? If yes, I will suggest that you get in touch them as regards your status, if no, then follow my first advice and write CIC, cos it takes six months or more for your AOR to be sent to you. (AOR means Acknowledge or Receipt).

But don't worry, the waiting has just began. As to your second question regarding IELTS, I am not sure if the test you took are accepted for immigration purposes or not, but I think in time my fellow Nija people will answer that or I might have had a proper answer for you.

Good luck and once again welcome to the waiting game.

Hi Chinyere,

October 2006 is just a bit over one year, I suggest you take an overdose of patience - no, this drug wont kill you.
The CHC Accra has cashed your draft, stop worrying about that. Your application would have been returned long before now if they had issues with it.

67 is a weak pass mark, believe me. You should work on improving this score ASAP.

Be very patient and move on with the other important issues in your life - get married, take annual vacation, start a business, etc. This is going to be a pretty long ride.

All the best.

I don't know how old you are but I know age should not be a barrier to moving forward. Yes, learn French if you have to! And you can ship relations abroad if that will also help.
I cannot be specific in my recommendations since I don't know in what area you scored low. 67 is a borderline mark and you should step it up so you can have confidence that you will be ok even if the pass mark goes up.

If you let me know your points in each of the listed criteria maybe I can suggest something.

All the best.

A guy on another forum has applied for immigration just now, the 27 of December 2007. He was told to wait 48 months (!!).... Are not they crazy, big immigration bosses in Canada, offering such terms of waiting period?

They are not really crazy. The loads of applications they have to contend with are quite enomous so we are all on queue. Be patient and relax.

Nna,

Though October 2006 is 'enough' to get worried about, to the CHC Accra it is not, so I would suggest you take it easy and go ahead with your life. In my own humble opinion Canadian PRV is not something you enter and start blinking, you just do it and go ahead with your life.

Check the link below

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/international/02a-skilled-fed.asp

and you will see that the processing period had increased to 71 months (that is almost 6 years!) so with Canadian PRV I would advise patience is the virture. Applications had increased since cut-off was lowered to 67 and is becoming more competitive, IELTS that was not a strong requirement before is now becoming a major requirement

About your score, since you are not using a lawyer I would advise you start preparing for the IELTS exam but for this again, patience is the virtue, the new rule (of which came into effect in 2005/2006) advices that you wait until you are asked to update or submit your papers or forms and since IELTS certificates now have expiry dates please wait for a while (probably after you are asked to submit your entries), doing the IELTS now won't make any sense. I don't know of your previous score in the IELTS exam you took earlier but when taking again make sure you go for the general exam and trusting that you would get a score of at least band 7 or higher which keeps you in good points in english proficiency. Also note that whether you score an 'imaginative score of 67 points' does not really matter an immigration officer can still use his discretion to grant you the PRV if in his opinion you merit that.

1, Note the processing times are for those applications already processed, so that means they were in the pipeline before the points were lowered to 67.
2. There are at least 800K applications in the backlog now, and as Canada only processes about 105K (2006) skilled workers, of which 44K were the principle applicant and 61K where the spouses and children. So at that rate, 800K would take 8 years to clear if no further applications were submitted.
3. Also of 01/01/08 there will be an "in-Canada class" for workers and students which will take away spots from the Skilled Worker category.
4. So if you don't have an LMO or AEO or receive a PNP certificate, (which take up most of the spots) I doubt if a person applying now will see a visa for 10/15 years. Just my opinion.

PPM, Is this analogy correct, so the waiting game is more than waiting rather its on-spot game

IMHO unless you are PNP nominated or have the LMO/AEO the chances are that those that do, will leapfrog your application. Unless the rules are changed it will be a very long wait.

Is the situation same throughout the world or some places like the US,Europe take lesser duration for the visa to come?
