How long does criminality and security checks take?

I know it's the same as asking "how long is a piece of string?"

I'm just worried as from what it says in my notes,my criminality checks were started back in August,and from notes I received recently,there's been no change to that.

Isn't that a long time for a criminality check?dosnt it just involve contacting police in my home country and Interpol etc to make sure I have no charges?
I'm just worried that it has so far taken over 8 months..

I just wanted to ask if this is normal?can anyone here tell me from looking at their notes,how long their criminality check has been going on?

Also,I see from my notes that my "security" hasn't been started..what is the difference in security checks and criminality checks?
