I'm currently in Canada doing an ESL, which will end in October. Then I'm supposed to apply for a new study permit to attend my post-secondary college in January 2019.

But there might be a possibility that it will start only in September 2019.

In this case, can I apply for the new permit and stay in Canada for all these months before starting the college?

You'll need to apply to change your status to visitor. Yes - you can remain in Canada but you obviously cannot work (you won't be able to start working again until your classes start in September 2019).

I see. Considering that my current study permit expires in November, does it mean I'd have to apply for a 10-month visitor visa until my college begins? Is that even possible?

I'm really worried that I won't start the college in January to be honest. I messed up with the tuition payment and the offer expired. I'm just hoping the college can still find a seat for me.
