How early Can i renew my Canadian passport ?

Hi There,

My currently Canadian passport expires in March 2017, however i will be away from January 2017-till April 2017. by April my passport will already be expired. I was wondering How early can i renew my Canadian passport ?

You should be able to renew it now as on CIC's website it only states that in order to renew a passport your current one needs to be valid or not been expired for no more than one year.

Where are you going? If there is a consulate near your destination, you might be able to renew there?

True but why the OP take the risk of renewing in a foreign country when they have plenty of time between now and year end to renew in country with current process time quoted approx 20 business days or 10 at a passport office. Assuming of course no out of country travel between now and January.. One less thing to think about by having an in date passport before travel.
