how does Immigration Canada notify us of a apporval of extension?

we submited a online form on Nov 23, 2010 for 6 month extension, will they simply send us a letter when their done? is there a way to check the current status of the application?

I do not know a way to check status, you just wait.
You will receive a Visitor record if you are approved.
