How does CIC contact you?

Hello,
When CIC needs to contact you regarding citizenship application, how do they usually do it? By (s)nail mail or e-mail? I know for sponsorship applications, it is almost entirely by e-mail. The only physical mail they send is at the end when your COPR is issued. Just curious how they do it for citizenship applications.
