When you land in Canada as a PR, you give them a Canadian address to mail it to. You get it there in about a month.
The front of it has your picture, signature, name, gender, nationality, birthdate, ID number and expiry date. The back has the PR card number, UPC code, magnetic strip, your height, eye color, country of birth, date you became a PR and where you landed, category which I don't know what is, again a small picture of you and a line of letters and numbers containing some of this information again.
You can see what it looks like here: http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/pub/images/bsf5023/13cprc.jpg
