How does 6mo rule work for multiple entry when you are US citizen/no Visit Visa

Hello,

I have been with my husband for 4 1/2 years and we married this past May. We just received our marriage license back and are going to start the sponsorship process from out of country very soon. I am from a US bordering city and we are sick of the drive/winter weather makes it hard for us sometimes. The fact that it is taking longer to process the paperwork for PR is making it even tougher.

I am looking to take a leave from work for just over a month to find a place with my husband. I will then go back to work for a few consecutive days (4/5 days) in the US so I have money to pay my own bills and then go back to Canada for a month or so again. I'd like to keep doing this for the winter and then possibly come back to the US in the summer to work full time. Then start this back up in the fall.

My question is about if this is legal to do. I know you can stay in Canada for 6 months and can even extend your stay, but since I do not need a visitors visa (therefore not needing the multiple entry) I don't understand if the 6 months resets each time.

Going over the border what would be smart to have? I was going to bring my leave of absence paperwork, (so they would know that I had to return to keep my job) a bank statement and each paycheck I receive. I am wondering if this is enough to tie me to home and if I will receive any issues at the border. I cannot see me never coming home for six months or more as I have family and a job here.

Thanks for any information!
