Working under the table for cash would be illegal. Not a good idea.

Personally, I did some contract work for a charity in England while waiting. That actually is allowed without a work permit, as it counts as telecommuting.

You could also volunteer, as long as it's not doing work that would usually be paid:

Thanks!

The wait is just toooooooooooo long ...I would appriciate if the CIC could issue a OWP while waiting . Just consider some human rights.. :p

I spent hours researching and applying for jobs to get a LMO.

Within 6 weeks, I had a job and work visa. I am surprised, after 9 months you haven't already done that, easier to get the job if you are already in Canada, as you can attend interviews.

It wasn't easy, I did apply for 100's of jobs and had hundreds of interviews, until i managed to get the LMO but that is a route to explore whilst you are waiting.

Do NOT work for cash, if you get caught your application is doomed.

Well, actually that's not true. While it's definitely a bad idea (on many levels - don't do it!), in terms of the IRPA it would simply mean you were out of status due to working without permission, which is covered by the spousal public policy allowing inland applications from out of status applicants. See IP8 5.27:

It is definitely rough not being able to work, my husband went through the same thing.. he was almost out of work for 2 years and now we have been refused. So we've spent 2 yrs scraping by on one income to be denied. My husband tried the LMO route but was unable to get one because the government said he would not leave the country, doesn't make sense but one thing the government clearly is not is compassionate.
Hopefully you hang in there, we know how rough it can be...

Thank you very much for all the replies.

I appriciate that you share your own experience and stories.

Any one knows can my husband (canadian citizen)register a company doing some business in the leisure time? will that be a problem for me(will the CIC will suspect I could be involved into the company)

or

Just become a self-employed will be a problem?

Thanks again for any reply
