we sent our application in on april 7 and it was signed for at mississauga on the 12th of april...
and i am just wondering... how do i know when they are looking at it.. when do we get a number or ANYTHING to know about what is happening. it feels weird because we just sent it out and now we wait with no idea whether they actually have it or it is just in the bottom of a pile of boxes somewhere in the office.
when do we get a number or anything to give us a little ease of mind?

They are currently working on applications received March 18 for sponsor approval. Count 41 days from the date of receipt of your application (current processing time) then try to check your application status on eCAS. You can also call the Call Centre, or your sponsor if you are not in Canada, they will be able to give you a file number/Client ID by that time if processing of your file for sponsor approval has begun.

so I won't here a single thing from ANYTHING until they actually start it? but even if they could tell me they at least HAVE the application in their office, i would be happy.

Why? YOu know it arrived.

CIC does not acknowledge when the applications are received. That's why many send their packages by courier with tracking codes. That's the best way to confirm it has arrived.

Yep. You wont know nothing at all until after its been approved/denied. It wont even begin processing for a good month after it gets there, so they wont even know your file exists even if you try calling.

All they will tell you if you call before the 41 days is what you can find on the website....its frustrating.

44 Days now, seems like they added three days since the update even a week ago

Well, they did take a couple days off for Easter.

I applied inland, imagine that only after a bit less than 3 months i had the confirmation from the CIC call centre(i called) that my application was getting processed and i could log in in e-cas (cleint application status) only after 8 months!!!

Yep, both Good Friday and Easter Monday are federal statutory holidays. :D

Based on my experience, it was approved in 30 days although in their website it says 41+ days. Within Canada, you will receive the acknowledgement letter within 3-4 days, I am not sure about the other countries. You can also try calling the CIC number if it has been 30 days - I found out that my sponsorship has been approved and my husband's PR app has been forwarded to his country of residence this way. :)
