How can we apply for extention? Visitor Visa Winnipeg

1. My in laws are here from the Phils and they have tourist visas. How do we ask for extensions?
2.It doesnt say anywhere on their passports nor were they given any paper that they have to leave within 6 months? is that automatic?

We are here in Winnipeg, Manitoba.. Thanks for the help guys..
