Hi,
Me and my wife are Sri Lankan citizens currently live in UK.We got Canadian PR this year,We landed Toronto February 2012 to confirm our landing and stayed there for only 2 weeks.Because I am doing my PhD in UK me and my wife are living in UK since April 2011,now she is expecting a baby and baby will be delivered in July 2013.As we don't have a health card in Canada we hope to deliver our baby in UK.We hope to permanently settle in Canada once I finish my PhD in April 2014. How can we take our baby with us when we go to canada. Can we apply for a temporary resident permit for him from UK,how long will that process take? When I go to Canada how soon can I sponsor my baby?Is there a minimum amount of income they ask to have before sponsor the baby? How long this process will take. Please be kind enough to answer my questions

As permanent residents, you may sponsor your child as long as you are living in Canada at the time. So, one of you would need to move to Canada and then sponsor your baby or your baby would need to enter Canada as a tourist when you move while you apply for status. The instructions are available at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp.

Currently, the London office is working quite quickly - you can see the details closer to the time you apply at http://www.cic.gc.ca/EnGLIsh/inFORMation/times/perm-fc.asp

Thank you very much for your reply. So can I start to sponsor my baby as soon as I go to Canada. Is there minimum income you need to have per month before you start sponsoring? How much money they ask to show(what is the average amount)?

When I read through this site I came to know some people have taken their children with them with a temporary resident permit (TRP).Is that possible in my case, because now I am in UK, not in my home country(Sri Lanka). As my child will be delivered here will UK government support in getting TRP.

Our other option was to deliver our baby in Alberta, because I heard they provide health card from the first day we landed there.(because we can't go to Canada 3 month before delivery). We have landed in Toronto for 2 weeks this year as I said to confirm our landing for PR purposes.During that stay we applied for the health card in Toronto. but we did't receive any.May be because we came back soon.So if we land Alberta this time as we have applied already for health card in Toronto will they refuse to offer a health card from Alberta as soon as we landed.Does Alberta health card cover delivery cost?

please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is Alberta information:

http://www.health.alberta.ca/AHCIP/registration-requirements.html

http://www.health.alberta.ca/AHCIP/moving-to-Alberta.html

Moving to Alberta from outside Canada / immigrants

If you are moving or returning to Alberta from outside Canada, you might be eligible for coverage on the date of your arrival. You must register within 3 months of arrival. Newcomers to Canada are required to present a copy of their Canada entry document along with their other supporting documents.
■Contact us for more information if you or your dependants hold temporary immigration documents.

To apply for coverage, complete and submit the Application for Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan Coverage (Form AHC0102), also available at an authorized registry agent location.
■Read about registration requirements and eligibility

From reading this, yes, you would have healthcare immediately if you move to Alberta - but you must remain in Alberta for 183 days (6 month or so) or else you will be charged for the hospital stay. Alberta healthcare will cover your delivery costs. If your wife needs an ambulence to the hospital or demands a private room, those aren't covered, but almost everything else is. From what I've seen from my friends, Alberta takes excellent care of babies and children in their healthcare system.

Telephone:

780-427-1432 (Edmonton) Monday–Friday 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Closed statutory holidays.

And just my opinion - Alberta is a great place to live. The weather is much better than Toronto. :D
