How are refunds made?

Does the government send you a cheque?
(Not very convenient if you are living in another country.)

Does the government ask you for credit card information so they can refund to the card? Or, do they have this credit-card information on file somewhere, and can refund automatically?

How long does it take to get the refund?

Just curious; I sent our application only yesterday, so Canada has not yet had time to reject us! LOL

Hello,
if they need to make a refund, they send you a letter with a special form that you need to fill in and send back to them. In that form you give them details of your bank account you wish you money be refunded.

If you're entitled to a refund they will make it payable to the person whose information you wrote on the payment slip you sent in with you application.

Thanks, Swede, but my question was, in what form is the refund made? If CIC writes me a cheque in Canadian dollars, and mails it to me in China, that is not very useful, since I cannot cash such a cheque except at great cost.

I paid by credit card, as most people offshore do, and would hope they would refund to my card.

Hence the question.

There aren't too many people in this category who would know about that. If you read in the skilled worker category the "few" that have reported about a refund have talked about cheques. Calling CIC would be a better place to get this info. )

My Skilled Worker application was refunded the way I described in my post above. They sent me a special form for making refund to have it filled and send them back to the visa office.
