Housing while on Student Visa?

Just had a bit of a question - as I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. Is it possible to rent an apartment while on a student visa? The application for a student visa is inquiring about cost of living on a campus - But I'm not aiming to live on Campus (Considering the school I'm looking at doesn't have student housing.) I'm not sure what to put there, or where to look for information on something like this. Any advice?

2. Check the bulletin board of the school you intend to go to, try Craigslist, of Kiiji.
