Housing in Victoria

Hi

My wife will be starting a course this fall and I will be on Open work permit. We are trying to find a place to rent through Victoria Craigslist.

Some places ask for references and credit history. How do students show these when they are arriving new?

Also some rentals use the word "bachelor". Does it mean that only a student can live there and not their spouse?

Bachelor means the apartment is one big room (there is no separate bedroom). A couple can definitely live in a bachelor - but they are usually very small.
