How do they calculate the work experience on the EE Profile ?

My wife started working in Canada on September 9 th 2014. She joined as a part time employee and then moved to full time in June 2015.The number of hours she has worked is more than 1560 now . Would it be ok to update the profile now to mention she has got 1 year of work experience in Canada . or should i update it only after september 9 th 2015?

The work experience rule says if you have completed one year or equivalent time in part time . COuld someone clarify this please ?

Your spouse's experience will be calculated as less than full-time till June 2015 and full-time from then on. Depending on the number of hours worked/week between Sep '14 and June '15, she will complete her 1 year of work experience at some point in time after Sep 9th '15 but certainly not on that date because she has 10 months of part-time experience and only 2 months of full-time experience.

Hi there,

Your experience must be at least 12 months of full-time (30 hours of paid work per week or more) or an equal amount in part-time hours.

Full Time

30 hours/week for 12 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)

Part time

15 hours/week for 24 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
OR
30 hours/week for 12 months at more than one job = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)

Hope this helps to calculate exact hours.

It is up to the applicant to ensure that their profile is eligible. If your wife get an ITA and CIC later determines that she did not meet the eligibility criteria (based on documents such as application forms that require exact dates, the letter of employment, T4, NOA etc.) , you've wasted time and money.

By definition, part-time work will take longer than 1 year to reach the full-time equivalent (FTE). If you are adding up hours, full-time hours above 30 hours cannot be added to part-time hours. you cannot add more than 30 hours per week when totalling up hours. For example, if she works 40 hours per week, you can only count it as 30 hours per week.

The point is, if someone works 60 hours per week, they are not eligible after 6 months, they still need to work a full year.

There are 2 ways you can calculate her FTE eligibility.

1) Count the number of full time weeks (ignore number of hours, as long as it is 30 or more). Then for part-time weeks (fewer than 30 hours per week), add up all the hours and divide by 30. Add the FT and FTE weeks together. You need 52 weeks (1 year) to be eligible.

2) For each full-time week, count it as 30 hours only, add to all part-time hours, and divide by 30. This gives you the number of FTE weeks - again, you need 52 weeks (1 year) to be eligible.
